Tonight, Kim and I are celebrating Halloween early, because I have tomorrow off from work. I work until 7 so the festivities begin at 8. This is what we are planning on watching:
- 8 p.m.: Halloween, the first one since I don’t believe I ever saw, which Kim can’t believe.
- 9:30 p.m.: The Muppets Haunted Mansion, which is on Disney Plus.
- 10:30: What We Do in the Shadows, the movie, which we own and is one of our favorites.
- Midnight: The Rocky Horror Picture Show, because it only seems appropriate for a midnight showing.
All this week, we also have been watching a selection of the Treehouse of Horror episodes of The Simpsons, also on Disney Plus. I found several “best of” lists online, but went with one from the site Den of Geek: “13 Great Simpsons Treehouse of Horror Halloween Stories.”
How do you celebrate Halloween? Any favorite movies for the day or night?
My husband graciously watched Hocus Pocus for the first time a few weeks ago. And we started watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show last night as well. It really is such a BAD movie. I mean, I adore Tim Curry, but the whole thing is insane. Maybe all “great” Halloween movies are really terrible?

I can think of a few really good horror, especially horror comedy, movies but not specifically Halloween movies, now that I think about it.

We watched The Muppets Haunted Mansion a few weeks ago and enjoyed it. All the usual Muppet shenanigans and fun. That’s the extent of our celebration. We may keep the lights off and not even put candy out. We’re scrooges that way. As for Halloween movies, my favorite creepy movie is “The Bad Seed” because it’s one that I watched with my beloved, late uncle.

Oh, that movie is great. The evil seems more evil because it comes in the form of a child who looks like a doll.

Great line-up! We have nothing special planned. I always try to decide whether The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween or Christmas movie. This year, it’s feeling like a Christmas movie.

I thought about that too.

Treehouse of horror episodes are some of my favorite TV, and some of my other favorite spooky watches tend to blend comedy with horror. Tremors is a fun creature feature, Cabin in The Woods and Dale and Tucker Versus Evil are both pretty great movies poking fun at the tropes of other horror movies. If I go a more serious route, another favorite of mine that is I think very halloween-ish is Pan’s Labyrinth.

I love all of those. Kim doesn’t love as many of those, but we’ve watched Dale and Tucker Versus Evil an obscene number of times.

Nothing special planned at all. Uk doesn’t go in for Halloween to the same extent as you do and in fact the last couple of years have been very quiet (not even 1 trick or treat knock on the door).

But Shaun of the Dead is classic Halloween fare here. 🤔🙂

I had to look up that film, wondering if it was a spin off of Shaun the Sheep but no……

Nope. Different movie altogether. 🙂

Wait a second. You haven’t seen the original Halloween? Halloween II takes place the same night so you may have to work that one in.
We are watching Halloween this Friday. Halloween II on Saturday and between now and then I need to watch Hocus Pocus, Charlie Brown and then we have been watching classic monster movies like Frankenstein, Dracula, etc. The black and white films are so atmospheric.

I might work Halloween 2 in tomorrow. But we’re booked for tonight.

I am so impressed with your line up of Halloween viewing. I haven’t ever watched the Halloween movie either, but have loved various public midnight viewings of Rocky Horror (oh, Rocky!). I think I’ll add the Simpson’s episodes to my weekend watching. Thank you for the reminder and enjoy!

Yeah, based on the first one, it’s not worth watching the rest.
