Weekend (Reading) Plans

My plans to participate in last weekend’s Dewey’s 24 Hour Reverse Readathon fizzled. My tinnitus kicked into full gear Friday night, no thanks to fans and window air conditioners we have to use to combat the heat and humidity. Then when I got to Saturday afternoon, after working at the library a good part of the day, I didn’t feel like reading. Instead, I started to watch the final season of Criminal Minds.

So, this weekend, I think I’ll give myself one goal: to read the next book in the Inspector Montalbano series by Andrea Camilleri I’ve been making my way slowly through since the start of the year. It is Treasure Hunt, the 16th in the series, and I’ve been talking about getting to it since early last month. So maybe by the end of this month, I’ll actually read it.

As for Criminal Minds, I still have five left to go of a shortened 10-episode season. I might hammer them out, although probably, to be honest, I will keep watching the final two seasons of CSI: Miami. Yes, it’s silly and stupid but sometimes, maybe especially now, I need silly and stupid.

What are you reading or planning to read this weekend?

  1. Silly and stupid works. Especially now. The news is just TOO MUCH. I went back to working my way through Star Trek: TNG. Talk about silly and stupid! But it gives me hope that we can survive everything that is coming at us right now. You do what you have to do to survive.

    1. It’s good to look ahead to the future, especially the distant future. 🙂 As for silly and stupid, we watched Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story Monday, Popstar Tuesday night, and The 40-Year-Old Virgin tonight.

  2. I’ve only had light tinnitus a few times and for a very short time and didn’t like it, so I really hope it will leave you alone.

Good luck with your reading, my slump is finally over…for now at least. It seems it keeps coming back.

I’m reading 97 Orchard and enjoying it. I love all things NYC, especially Manhattan!

I hope you have a great week!

  3. I looked up tinnitus. I had a vague notion it was “ringing in the ears” (perhaps it was on a vocabulary test at some earlier time in my life). It sounds terribly annoying.

I hope your plans for today are working out. It’s always good to have a backup plan for something completely relaxing if the reading doesn’t work out.

    1. It is annoying, but some days are better than others. Today is one of the better days. I’m more than halfway through the book and I’ve watched some of CSI: Miami last night too. All in all, a good weekend, including a good walk this morning around our town.

  4. I haven’t watched it in years, but I liked CSI Miami the best of all those crime shows. Does that mean I’m silly it stupid? Haha.
I’m reading East of Eden and I’m enjoying it very much. It’s crazy.

  5. We used to watch Criminal Minds and really liked it (as much as one can “like” a show about serial killers!).

I hope you have a wonderful weekend whether you read the next book in the series or end up watching a bunch of TV. And, I hope your tinnitus behaves itself. I also have tinnitus, but it doesn’t get better and worse, it just is.

  6. Wait a minute, now, what??? I just zoomed in on the cover of your book. So the author of those Inspector Montalbano books also wrote Shape of Water? Like the movie Shape of Water? Interesting!

Oh, no, never mind. I just Googled and the movie is a totally different thing with a different writer and the screenplay came first, then the movie, then the book. lol

As for me, I’m reading Middlemarch. And I guess I WILL be reading it for awhile. I don’t know how thick the book is but Kindle estimates my reading time at 24 hours. Lordy.

      1. Yah, I don’t know how long I’ll be able to stick with Middlemarch. I don’t hate it yet but it really makes my brain work hard. People back in those days had a much bigger vocabulary than I do. I feel like I need to look up every other word.

Also, tinnitus!!! I have that from time to time and it’s awful. I read that yawning over and over helps and I tried it and it does help mine a bit. Doesn’t get rid of it, but helps.
