I’m going in reverse this weekend…

…for Dewey’s 24 Hour Reverse Readathon.

The event starts tonight, Friday, Aug. 6 at 8pm EST and runs to Saturday, Aug. 7 at 8 pm EST. The reason it’s called “reverse” is because normally the event begins at 8 a.m.on a Saturday and runs until 8 p.m. that same Saturday. But in the summer to accommodate folks from around the world, the event is done with these adjusted hours.

I work tomorrow during most of the event, but I plan to make the most of the start tonight, from 8 p.m. to midnight, and the finish tomorrow night, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Tonight I plan to listen to some of Jenny Lawson narrating her book, Broken, with my wife as we have been making our way slowly through it over the past few months. We have two and a half hours left. The goal will be for us to finish it tomorrow night before my wife leaves for work at 7 p.m.

I also might dip into some Ms. Marvel comics that I have checked out from the library and/or continue with the Inspector Montalbano series by Andrea Camilleri I’ve been making my way slowly through since the start of the year. Next up is The Treasure Hunt, the 16th in the series.

What are you reading or planning to read this weekend?

Update, Friday night: My tinnitus has decided to “turn up,” probably because of the fans and small window air conditioners are turned up too because of the heat outside. So, my morning plans are gone into the night reality. I am off work Sunday and Monday, so that’s probably when I will continue with my reading plans sans readathon.

Update, Sunday afternoon: I took all the Ms. Marvel volumes back to the library, after I decided that while I think the comics are well done, they’re not written for me, but for teenagers. Now I’m starting to watch the last season of Criminal Minds.

  1. A few years back I had a horrible bout of tinnitus. I could not figure it out because I never suffered from it before. The doc couldn’t figure it out. It was always worse when I sat on my family room couch. Turns out, my daughter dropped a glass of something and did not clean it up properly behind the couch and it created this fuzzy mold. I was highly allergic to it. Once that was treated and cleaned up, it went away within a week. Could your condition be allergy related?

  2. I totally lagged and didn’t notice this readathon is happening. But, reading a whole bunch tonight (the readathon began 5 minutes ago) and tomorrow sounds good to me.

  3. I’m in, too. Probably continuing with my two current reads – Anne Frank: A Biography by Melissa Muller and The Menopause Manifesto by Dr. Jen Gunter.

    2. I am reading Dr Gunter’s book also. It is excellent, and I recommend her podcast ‘Body Stuff’ too.
