I’m officially back!

After taking a short break for most of January, I’m officially back! I was unofficially back yesterday for a short musical interlude, but now I’m really back. So here’s what I have been up to the last few weeks.

I’ve been continuing to read the Inspector Montalbano series by Andrea Camilleri. In January I read the sixth, seventh, and eighth in the series, The Smell of the Night, Rounding the Mark, and The Patience of the Spider.

We got a new chair (electric, even with a USB port so I can charge my phone) for me and a new cat tree for our two cats (their first!).

A coworker also had some extra prints of photos from the western part of the U.S. that he wanted to give away to us for free. These are the ones I selected:

We caved (more accurately, I caved) to finally getting Disney Plus. I saw that The Muppets, the TV series, is coming later this month and it was too enticing for me to pass up. Plus I knew Kim would like to see The Simpsons. We also wanted to see Hamilton, but weren’t going to get the platform just for that. Now that we have it, we’ll watch it, but of course. Last night, the first thing I watched was Toy Story 2, my favorite Toy Story, especially for this scene, which has me in tears every single time:

Last night was no different as I bawled, from the first note. That’s all it took.

Today, I have zero plans beyond this. I don’t go back to work until tomorrow. We might watch Hamilton later today. We might not. It’s wide open. Usually on Feb. 2, we watch Groundhog Day, but this year maybe we won’t since we’ve already been living it for the last year.

Oops, added this in later: I forgot to include we watched the 1980s cult classic They Live. Kim had seen it, I had not, but when a mutual friend of ours mentioned it in conversation, we knew we had to watch it. It was over the top, but fun.

So what have you been up to since I’ve been gone? Reading, watching, listening to anything good? Share in the comments.

  1. Good to have you back! Glad to hear you’ve been doing well and look at your cat already loving the cat tree!

I haven’t taken advantage of our Disney subscription as much as I’d like though my husband and kids have. They do have some great stuff though. I’ve been thinking of binge-watching all the Marvel movies.

  2. We got Disney+ as soon as it was available over here in the UK. I also haven’t yet watched Hamilton (I’ll get to it at some point) but we’ve been enjoying The Mandalorian and now WandaVision so feel it’s been worth it. Glad to see you are back!

  3. Glad you’re back and I hope the digital break was healing. We had Disney+ for a month or so, but I didn’t use it enough so I cancelled, maybe that was a mistake. I love the idea of a comfy chair with a phone charger built in!

  4. Welcome back! I’ve been rushing to finish Stargirl on HBO Max because it’s my son’s subscription and he’s about to ditch it. There are a couple other things I’m watching on that same channel but I can’t remember what they are, right now. Bedtime amnesia, I guess.

We got Disney+ for Hamilton but I’d been wanting to see The Mandalorian (that was not enough for Husband). Need to rewatch Hamilton. Mostly, though, we watch stuff from our childhoods, although we both enjoyed The Mandalorian more than we expected.

  5. Great to have you back, Bryan! That chair looks awesome as do the prints. We also caved and got Disney+ for the same reason. Have you been watching the new Muppets? It’s cute but I think it’s too “techy.” We’re very much looking forward to watching the old Muppets. As for what’s new on this end, I decided to create a BookTube channel (something I thought I’d never do) and have been enjoying making videos over there. Bit of a learning curve, but it’s a fun bookish community. Hope your blog break was a good one!

    1. I haven’t seen the new Muppets, but I don’t think I want to either. I am looking forward to the old one too. I did see that you were on Booktube, but I haven’t had a chance to watch yet. I’ll try by the weekend.

  6. We have Disney Plus but mostly I use it for old Disney movies like The Apple Dumpling Gang. We did see Hamilton which was pretty fabulous. My kids use it more.

You saw that I started Schitt’s Creek. I think we are at the end of Season One now. It’s hilarious and crazy and all over the place but perfect for my mood. I love how fast paced each episode is too. It’s all writing and little plot which is the sign of any good show when writing alone can carry you through.

  7. Good to see you back Bryan. Did the blogging break make you feel more energised?

Not much exciting happening over here in Wales right now. We’ve been in strict lockdown since late December with no sign of it being lifted any time soon. I hope they don’t actually relax the restrictions too soon – thats what happened in the fall last year and the number of cases rocketed.
