Where I be

Today I’m in between this and that:

  • With my reading as I’m meandering my way through Devotions: The Selected Poems of Mary Oliver with no intention of finishing today. I’m just enjoying the ride, the rhythm, the cadence.
  • With my life in general with my wife and I both enjoying a long weekend. I return to work late Tuesday morning; she, late Thursday night as she has been on vacation since last Monday. After going to visit my parents yesterday, we are just taking a down day today, listening to music, reading a little, and watching some TV. Later tonight, we are getting together with two of her sisters and their husbands via Google Meet.

So where you at on this fine Sunday with your reading and/or your life? Hopefully you’re hanging in there wherever you be.

  1. I be hanging in, juggling all my Mom’s various caregivers…visiting nurse, shower aide, physical therapist. Found time to skim my way through Buddha Da but wasn’t into the characters or story at all.

Hope you have a great rest of the week!

  2. Isn’t it sad that we have to get together with people via Google chat or Zoom these days? I loved Devotions, but it took me a long time to read and digest. My Sunday Post is a snapshot of my brain

    1. Not really sure. My wife’s sisters live a long way from us and to be honest, we wish we had thought about it before. As for Devotions, I’m reading it very slowly, but enjoying it.

    1. We have added computer use by appointments and pickup of holds in the building. While there is no browsing in the main rooms, we do allow patrons to look at new books and movies that they can check out. We also still have curbside service. The numbers are still low in our county of about 40,000. Just over 30 positive cases, maybe 3 deaths, last time I checked. Also good when we go out to the grocery store, now we are seeing more people than not wearing masks. Used to be about 3 in 10, now at least 8 in 10. So that’s good.

  3. Churches are open here, but, even with social distancing and masks, I have not been able to return. I don’t trust people to keep their distance. Instead I attend Mass in France each week (and sometimes a little more often) virtually at Bonnevaux Center. It’s a contemplative mass, and it’s exactly what I need. They also stream a meditation session each Thursday, very early in the morning for me, but it’s quite lovely.

My reading has been odd but satisfying. I have several books, including Devotions and War and Peace, that I am reading a little in each day. I also pick up a stack of books from the library each week, and I read one a day from that stack, generally picture books.

Have you read good spiritual books in the past that you recommend?

  4. We’re in CT in a rental house where we’re hunkering down for the rest of August and September… things feel better/safer here than they do in FL at the moment. One Manhattan daughter is here working remotely and the other visited this weekend. (The third is with us full time.) Life isn’t exactly normal, but I’m still reading and walking and hoping to resume a more normal blogging routine.

  5. My daughter left to go back to college today so I am between excited for her and sad that she is gone. It’s always a mixed bag.

  6. I am enjoying this crazy cool summer with the windows open, listening to some questionable music (disco), organizing the few packed boxes I already have, and getting caught up on email. Later, most likely reading, cross-stitch, and maybe TV. It depends on Holly and whether she wants to watch something with me. A relaxing Sunday.

  7. It was close to 116 degrees yesterday and this fire is still burning so it felt quite hellish. Today is about ten degrees cooler. I have my church group meetup online for a little while and then we will take a drive to a winery. Not to really go to the winery but just to take a drive. I am going to try to stop though to pick up a bottle or two if I can. I mean, why not?
