This week was a busy one for me. From top left to bottom are highlights from my past week:
- Sunday: I took most of the day to listen to most of a 1981 NPR Radio adaptation of A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller, Jr. which I’ll probably finish later today after my wife goes to work.
- Monday: She and I started watching a Swiss series, Der Bestatter (The Undertaker) on MHz that we’re trying for 30 days. We’ve also been watching two German shows, Professor T. (a remake of a Belgian TV show of the same name) and Der Tatortreiniger (Crime Scene Cleaner). All three so far are excellent.
- Tuesday: I mowed our lawn for the first time this year and just in time as on…
- Wednesday: It rained, but I still got out for a walk.
- Thursday: I took a carload of recycling to our local recycling station that opened Monday; we got a new mattress, our first in 15 years (we are going to get a platform for it in the near future); and we got a delivery from Misfits Market early in the day that one of our cats, Alexandra, was very interested in.
- Friday: I got out for a walk earlier in the day before it started raining…and snowing.
Not pictured, I also:
- Watched The Darjeeling Limited with my wife, one of the few Wes Anderson movies we haven’t seen, on Tuesday night. It was good, but still not our favorite by Anderson, which is Moonrise Kingdom.
- Purchased a ebook copy of Devotions: The Selected Poems of Mary Oliver on Wednesday after it became available after being on hold from Free Library of Philadelphia for three months earlier in the day. I decided I might as well just buy a copy and read it when I want to read it and not feel pressured because other people are on hold.
- Purchased a ebook copy of A Month in the Country by J.L Carr, a short novel that a friend recommended last week. He said he read it all in one sitting and I think I might try just that tomorrow.
Still an unfinished person... 
You’ve been busy this past week! We’ve been having nonstop rains for two months now. This is very unusual as it never rained as much in the past few years. No complaints – this is good for the plants and is also what Spring needs to be like. We’ve had to mow weekly though, which is the sad part of both having a lawn to maintain and so much rain. Still, weekly is probably okay. I know of folks who have to (or want to) do it 2x or 3x a week.

Canticle of Leibowitz is one of those books I really should read. My dad loved it, and I inherited the book when he was done with it. But I’ve never gotten around to it. Glad you enjoyed the radio show.

It’s supposed to rain today. It is grim and gray but my sinuses tell me no rain.
May is skipping along. My focus these past two days have been food. Less of it. A weight gain that I could not ignore is making me sit up and take notice again. I really need to get out and move but I wasn’t much of a mover before and walking my neighborhood is normally pleasant but so many are not following guidelines. My Hamilton tickets for August will not be used since they cancelled. Trying to reschedule but Lin Manuel announced that the film movie of the live show will be streamed on Disney + July 3rd!

Looks like a good week! The first mow of the season is always tough, and those flowers are beautiful. We’re still staying home as much as we can… grocery shopping is about it. Thankfully there are plenty of places to walk without crowds and lots of good books to read. Love your header photo … was planning to fly to NY and surprise my mother this weekend. Obviously those plans were scrapped.

I just went and checked outed the old radio programs and listened to an episode of The Whistler! I found it so funny to hear the old commercials and sound effects. I’ll consider listening to A Canticle for Leibowitz- thanks- The Pink May flowers are beautiful! Have a great week.

I’m just getting into tv programmes with sub titles. Always steered away from them in the past thinking it would be too difficult but actually it’s surprisingly straight forward and we’ve seen some great programmes.

I think I’m just used to it because I don’t hear well. And I don’t mind subtitles. Plus the exposure to other countries and cultures is fascinating, e.g. even Great Britain. 🙂

A Canticle for Leibowitz is a book I first read when I was a young adult and I read nothing but science fiction/fantasy, probably nearly forty years ago. I reread it in 2013, and, happily, it held up. I will look for this radio adaption.
What sort of flowers are those pink ones? Can they survive snow? What is it doing snowing in May? Is that common? Is it somehow related to the pandemic? (new conspiracy theory?)
I’ll add a big yes to Month in the Country. I wonder if I have it on my list of mood-boosting books. I think I shall add it if I don’t.
Oh, and don’t forget that you and I played online Scrabble and you beat me. It’s okay. I can take being beaten. Though I prefer to win.

I’m not sure about the flowers, Deb. It’s been Spring here already so things are growing. As for snow in May, I have no idea but I don’t like it. 🙂 I don’t think it’s related to the pandemic. It’s just stupid weather. 😉 I didn’t forget. Or did i? Did I beat you? To be honest, I thought you beat me. You and Athira are very good, as I am remembering it. And who doesn’t prefer to win? We all do.
