The best laid plans…

This past week went somewhat as planned. In my last Sunday Salon post, I said that I’d begin with the month by buying a new lawnmower, which I did. However, I didn’t get to my first mow of the season as rain and work interfered. We still are continuing to watch the final season of Game of Thrones, but I didn’t finish All Things Wise and Wonderful by James Herriot last weekend as planned. Maybe that will happen Sunday evening as this afternoon (Saturday) I’m writing this post, then going to a Free Comic Book Day event at our library (a busman’s holiday of sorts) to pick up some comics for my nephew and niece as well as enter them for a chance for a few of the prizes.

I’ll be away Sunday morning:

So I plan on catching up on your posts Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, and responding to comments that you leave here.

Tonight, just to reacquaint myself with the last Avengers movie, when my wife goes to work at 8 p.m. (12 hour shift until 8 a.m. as an emergency dispatcher), I’m going to watch it. I know. I know. Really I should watch Captain Marvel to be properly up to speed, but this will have to do. I’m not that much of a geek when it comes to these things. To be honest, while I’m looking forward to this “last” one, I am looking forward to it ust being over, which same goes for Game of Thrones.

With a few exceptions, I think I almost prefer the short season shows, the way a lot of shows are done in Great Britain: one, two, three or four seasons, then done. This coming Wednesday, Kim and I are highlighting our favorite short season shows in our weekly feature “What We’re Watching Wednesday.” This past Wednesday, we restarted the feature with a short review of “the latest incarnation of the Tick.”

Next Sunday, I also am away for most of the day as I visit my mom (and Dad), who live about 60 miles away from us, for Mother’s Day. The following Sunday, I plan return to my normal Sunday morning routine of Sunday Salon blog reading and commenting in the morning as I don’t plan on going anywhere. Then I’ll end the month with a four-day weekend as the library where I work is closed for three days and I am taking a vacation day on the Tuesday after. Last week I mentioned that I’d be working that day, but plans changed.

Two of the days that I am off, Kim and I can be together as it is among her normal three days off; she works four days (Friday, midnight to 8 p.m.; Saturday, midnight to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 8 p.m., to Sunday, 8 a.m..; and Sunday, 8 p.m., to Monday, 8 a.m.). As I said in my last Sunday Salon post, it will be nice to have a chance to…

How was your past week? Read, watch, or listen to anything good? Share in the comments.

I’ll leave you with Father of the Bride, the new double album from Vampire Weekend, because I couldn’t decide on just one track from this album that only was released Friday and I already love:

  1. You know how I don’t listen to music all that often, well I am on an ABBA kick right now. Not so much ABBA itself but ABBA on Spotify gives me all sorts of other songs to go along with it and they are fun and quirky and fit my mood well right now.

  2. My husband finally had to give in and mow. The neighbor kid said he was going to do it but never showed up.
I didn’t watch Endgame – or the one before it. I just know I’d bawl and I tend to avoid movies that make me cry. Now Captain Marvel. It was fun and light.

  3. I think “we” have mowed twice now, but currently it’s way too wet to do any kind of yard work or gardening. I hope it dries up a bit soon.

  4. We probably won’t get back to NY much before June 1. Our lawn desperately needs mowing, but the guy that’s supposed to do it has said it’s so wet that he can barely walk on it, let alone mow. I’m starting to dread all the work that will be waiting for us when we get there. Hope you have a good week, Bryan!

  5. I haven’t seen any of the Avengers movies. The franchise took off when my kids were little and we’ve been out of the loop for so long we’re just not part of the fandom. On the reading front, I’m running behind

  6. Enjoy the movie! Captain Marvel is good to watch so you know her powers, but not that necessary to understanding Endgame. But you can let me know if I’m wrong on that point after you’ve seen it.

  7. You are good at coping with adjustments to your schedule. I tend to get upset when everything doesn’t go as I have planned. You’d think I’d be better with that at my age.

We may go see Avengers next week. I have free tickets next weekend, and Avengers looks like the best thing on the screen. I’ve never seen any of the comic book hero movies, so it will all be completely new to me. It definitely looks like it will be fun.

We actually mow all winter here, though we generally don’t have to mow but once or twice a month. In summer, that jumps to at least once a week. Right now we are repairing little places on our house as we get our house ready to paint soon.

    1. If you get a chance, you might want to see at least the first one, Avengers: Infinity War, or read a synopsis. I’m watching it tonight before I go tomorrow morning. I’m just trying to refresh my memory on the key points…good luck to you and your husband with the repairs and with the painting.

  8. Jim is out mowing the lawn for the first time this season. Of course, most everyone else in the neighborhood is mowing theirs for the second time already. We are those neighbors who wait until our yard is very overgrown before we get to it, not because we want it to look like a jungle but because we never have time to mow it during the week. Both Jim and I get home too late, and our yard is too big to be able to knock it out in an evening.

Jim and I have made no progress on our GOT watching – still on season one. I hope to get in an episode or two this weekend. Holly and I have made no progress on our Marvel movie watching. She and I both want to see all the movies before we watch Endgame. So far, we made it through the first Avengers movie – only fourteen more movies to go!

    Enjoy your weekend!
