The First Sunday Salon of the Year

Reading: Nothing yet, but I have selected what will be my first book of the year.

Watching: The highlight of this past week was a rewatch of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, so much of which I had forgotten.

Listening. Nothing new. I’m still listening to my top 25 albums of 2018

Blogging: A lot:

Celebrating: My dad’s 75th birthday (yesterday). We went to lunch at a place near where he lives. He had cheesesteak macaroni and cheese and I had a maple bacon cheeseburger with sweet potato fries and cinnamon honey. The food was amazing; the company was good too. 😉

How was your first week of 2019? Read, watch, listen to anything good?

  1. January has been okay so far. I watched all of Murphy Brown and the Hub watched he too. He loved it. We are working our way through The Haunting of Hill House but it’s so dark that we cannot binge watch it. One episode here and there when the mood strikes us. I think we are on episode #5. Also watching Hoarders. I have such a fascination with that show. I should have been a psychiatrist or a professional organizer.

My first book is a book about being stretched too thin. It’s got a workbook component to it but the paper quality is poor and it’s bugging me. I tried to erase and it got smudgy. I am a paper snob.

  2. Happy New Year, Bryan! And happy belated birthday to your father! His cheesesteak macaroni and cheese looks amazing!!

You are in good company with your first book of the year now that Reese Witherspoon selected it as her next book club selection. I hope you are enjoying it!

  3. Now that definitely looks like a great place to eat! Bakery + Cafe?! Love it.

The Library Book was one of my favorite reads of last year. I’m a fan of the way Susan Orlean writes—a little about this, a little about that, and yet everything thematically connected. I hope you enjoy it, too.

  4. Happy New Year! And Happy Birthday to your dad. I just started reading Dune so no clue if it’s good or not yet. I started watching Marvel’s Runaways on Hulu and the ends of the 3 episodes I’ve watched so far are good. I’m also 3 episodes in to The Haunting of Hill House and am still waiting for it to get scary. I think I am impossible to scare.

  5. Happy New Year, Bryan! The Library Book has been receiving a ton of positive reviews. I want to read it, but it’ll have to wait. There are about 100 holds for it in my library system. I’m going to check out your top albums of 2018 post. I need some inspiration stat!

  6. I had a good start to the year except in books. Sadly, my first book ended up somewhat disappointing, and I’ve culled two others from my 2019 list since then. I need to find a good one stat!
