Starting today and running every Wednesday in May, my wife Kim and I are doing a series on our favorite Netflix and Amazon Prime TV shows, alternating among mine, ours, and hers. Today, I start with my favorite TV shows on Netflix.
My favorite TV shows on Netflix are three Marvel shows: Daredevil. Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones, and in that order. Ostensibly missing is Iron Fist, which, to be honest, I didn’t give a chance after seeing the horrible reviews and hearing about its negative portrayal of women and Asians. I think I’ll just skip that one and wait for The Defenders, which brings all of them together.
Out of the first three mentioned, Daredevil was, and is, the standout, especially for its first season, for me. It was dark, it was gritty, it was unlike anything I’d seen on TV in terms of a comic book adaptation, and its action sequences kicked ass. Vincent D’Onofrio also took that first season to a whole other level in his role as the “bad guy” Wilson Fisk. The other two, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, are good, but nothing in my mind like that first season of Daredevil, in which we were introduced to a new darker version of the Marvel universe. However, both Cage and Jones are definitely worth watching, especially for their leads, Mike Colter and Krysten Ritter.

Yep. Jim binges each new season of these when one comes out. I’ve seen a few episodes here and there. I still think they are a bit too dark and gritty for me (read brutal), but since they are part of the Marvel universe, I feel like I have to give them a shot one of these days.

Let’s see …. I am a nut for Homeland and just finished Season 6. And I plan to watch The Handmaid’s Tale series … Loved The Night Manager series … not sure which of these are on Netflix.

None of them. 🙂 But that’s OK. Out of the three, I am interested in The Night Manager, which is on Amazon Prime.

Of the ones you’ve mentioned I’ve only seen Luke Cage (blogged the first ep as I watched it https://jhohadli.wordpress.com/2016/10/09/my-real-time-reactions-while-watching-episode-one-of-luke-cage), liked it, but still haven’t watched the whole season yet (probably because I liked but didn’t love it). The Daredevil movie may have ruined the series for me but with this rec I may give it a look-see.

I love love loved Jessica Jones. The psychological thriller feel is right up my alley. After that I’d rank them DD season 1, Luke Cage, and finally DD season 2. Still undecided if I actually want to watch Iron Fist for myself, or just read a Wiki recap before watching The Defenders.

The Handmaid’s Tale is interesting. It’s on Bravo here in Canada. I thought Grace and Frankie with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin was hilarious. And I just finished the third season of Bosch which was okay.

Both Grace and Frankie and Bosch are later in the series. We still have to finish Season 3 of Bosch.
